Currently the only public, steam working 9 1/2 inch gauge railway in the UK, Lakeshore Railroad was first opened in 1972 and is still going strong to this day! Running for just under a third of a mile round the boating lake, the tracks meander through the trees and over the level crossings before arriving back at the station.
A café' can also be enjoyed on site with what is quoted as "the best view seen from a café'" due to the large open viewing of the train running by.
Open in excess of 200 days a year, do come and have a trip whether your young or just young at heart!
Do enjoy our website, more in depth detail can be found in the enthusiasts section but don't worry, if you can't find something that you want to know, do ask, we don't bite!

The Return Of Autumn Shades: Cherry Picking and Half Term.
As is now becoming a frequent saying of ours at the close of the main summer season: it has came and went far too quickly! Despite the wet and windy start, the bank holiday brought August to a warm and sunny close, with vast swathes of passengers patiently waiting their turn to take a trip round the boating lake each day. Sadly, with the end of the summer holidays comes the inevitable end of daily running. We are now cherry picking fine weather weekdays whilst continuing to operate weekends, weather dependent as always. Do not hesitate to contact us if you are unsure as to whether we are operating on the day you intend to visit.

With the summer concerts and parades not far away, we are now operating a daily service until early September, giving you ample opportunity to let the train take the strain throughout July and August! As always, our service is weather dependent so do not hesitate to contact us if you are unsure we will be operating on the day you intend to visit.

Arrival and Departure: Nelly Returns and a Grand Farewell to Ryan Lamb.
There is nothing like a sudden flourish of unseasonably warm weather to throw the railway head first into the 2019 season! Lakeshore is once more a hive of activity; so much so that we already have two big announcements to bring you.
First and foremost, we are thrilled to announce that a familiar face has returned for a repeat visit to the railway: Nelly! Staying for the 2019 season, we are ever grateful to her owners for allowing her loan to the railway.
In contrast to Nelly's warm welcome, this March will see us bid a fond farewell to our General Manager, Ryan Lamb, as he departs for his new job in Cumbria; driving on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway. To mark an end to his 13 years of sterling service to the railway, we are proud to present "Lakeshore to Lakeland"; a spring gala held over the 9th/10th March featuring an intensive service and all available locomotives. Culminating with his last train on Sunday 10th, why not join us as we say a heartfelt goodbye to Ryan and wish him every good fortune in Ravenglass!
Finally, as always, do not hesitate to contact us if you are unsure as to whether we are operating on the day you intend to visit.
